Lone Buffalo Vineyards

Holiday in the Hills

Placer County Vintners Association's December 11-12, 2010 Holiday in the Hills winery tour was a success!

Lone Buffalo Vineyards, a boutique winery owned and operated by the Maddux family is located south of Auburn, LBV is a natural start for your tour of the Placer County Wine Trail.   For more information and directions, check out http://lonebuffalovineyards.com/; 916 663-4486.

Above the fog line, Placer County wineries enjoyed blue skies and temps in the 60s, especially at Lone Buffalo Vineyards.  What a beautiful weekend to be out roaming Placer County's beautiful country!

The winery produces about a 1,000 cases of wine annually featuring estate and foothill grapes.  The line-up is delicious!
  Bison Blanc Viognier
  Bison Blanc Viognier Reserve (estate)
  Buffalo Rose
Where the Buffalo Roam (Rhone blend)
  Tatonka Tempranillo
  Thunder Beast Zinfandel
  Noble Beast Cabernet Sauvignon
  Bison Heart Petite Sirah
  Pawny Tawny (aged dessert wine)

The winery's red Rhone Blend of grenache, syrah, mouvedre and cinsault, 2008 Where the Buffalo Roam, took a gold medal and Best of Class awards at the 2010 California State Fair and 2010 West Coast Wine competitions. Other wines have also placed in several competitions.

Jill Maddux (R) with daughter, Jocelyn Maddux (L) warmly welcome all who walk through the winery doors.  The winery has everything "buffalo"!

Winemaker Phil Maddux (R) with a friend of the herd, Bill Staehlin (L).  Phil has been making wine for over 35 years.  Wines are made and bottled on the premises.

What a great way to reconnect with friends and make new acquaintances!
